Merry Christmas, everyone!

If you are wondering I greeted you a merry Christmas when it's still around four more months before that day, it's because it is the norm here in the Philippines. Once the first day of September strikes, people already greet each other, with bazaars increasingly popping out everywhere to lure shoppers for some early Christmas gift shopping.

The Philippines won't earn the distinction of having the longest Christmas season in the world for nothing. As I've mentioned, it starts on the first day of September and ends at around the the third week of January, around the time of the Epiphany. As early now, some households are already starting to plan their home Christmas decorations, although it's noticeable that people are putting the decors as late as possible to avoid high electricity costs.

But no electricity costs will ever prevent Filipinos from celebrating the start of the season, though. What they may lack for home decors, they make up by singing a number of carols every now and then. As the Christmas Day start to get nearer and nearer, you'll notice that there will be more people knocking at your door, singing Christmas carols, and requesting for some money and treats.

As I've already mentioned, you got to watch out for the Christmas bazaars. They open very early to accommodate those people like us who don't want to be trapped in the shopping lanes once the frantic Christmas shopping season starts, not to mention that stuff tends to be cheaper during this time. The prices naturally go higher once the demand goes up prior to the week before Christmas.

So if you're already here in the country, do try to be here until the Christmas Day itself. The next coming months will be full of treats, surprises, and celebrations related to Christmas and unseen anywhere else. Be a witness to the country's version of the Christmas season and realize why it's the favorite season of most Filipinos.
