Philippines Missing The Foods Of My Time

I was with some friends the other night in Batangas and decided to put up a sudden grill party. We bought tuna heads and belly late in the afternoon and enjoyed it after it was grilled.
After having that sumptous dinner, the conversation led to an episode of Born To Be Wild aired on GMA Late Night Strip. The episode discussed the fruits we used to eat when we were kids but are now threatened by extinction like the mabolo, macopa, manzanita, camachile, atis, kaimito, balimbing and even the tasteless chesa.
The conversation led to memories when we were kids while climbing the mabolo tree of our neighbor Aling Sidra.
The pace was so fast that in no time, our conversation was already talking of the street foods we used to it. One of them said that the street foods found in the streets these days are no match for what we have back then.
Who can ever forget the famous binatog, tira-tira, and the bilao of puto at kutsinta topped with grated coconuts and kalamay. Yum! Yum! I used to have puto at kutsinta for breakfast. At times when I need to rush for school, I don't have time for the breakfast mom prepared and instead I will just buy puto at kutsinta at Aling Pining Garcia's store in front of the school and eat them while classes is going on. Nom! Nom!
