If there's one thing that you got to love about Philippine food, it's the seafood. There's just too many seafood available here, thanks to the fact that the country is an archipelago surrounded by water from all four sides. Fishes, shrimps, crabs, shellfish--name it, I'm sure you can find that sea delicacy somewhere in the country!

If you are in the city, you really don't have to look out far just to get your dose of seafood delight. Aside from supermarkets and upscale restaurants, there's also what we call here the dampa, which allows you to pick the seafood you want to eat in the nearby seafood market, and have the restaurants cook it for you in any way you want.

I only learned about this dining theme just this week, when my manager invited the entire team over for a dinner in the dampa along Macapagal Avenue in Pasay City. We had a visitor from Sydney and so she thought it was appropriate that we let the visitor have a taste of seafood dining within Metro Manila.

I was not part of the shopping contingent, but it is not really difficult, especially if you know how to haggle. It is difficult for foreigners, so it's best to have a local accompany you to help you do the haggling. After the shopping, we then proceeded to Trinity Restaurant, where the seafood was cooked.

There were sweet and spicy crabs, shrimp tempura, sweet shrimps, buttered scallops, sinigang na bangus (milkfish in tamarind soup), plus a host of other seafood dishes that I already couldn't name myself. For a while, I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of seafood dishes that were placed all around me. I just couldn't stop eating the shrimps!

The feast was obviously not cheap, but I'm sure it's way cheaper than it had been if we dined in other restaurant outside the dampa.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience that I would like to try out again. Maybe next time I'll tag my family along so that we can experience the haggling in the seafood market by ourselves.
