Bright Future from A Rich Past

Thank author of this post/comment

It's always a good thing when people look back into their past, not to live by it, but to pay tribute and get some inspiration from the events that took place.

The Philippines spent more than 300 years under the governance of Spain. I'm pretty sure those 300 years are not all about the revolution and the martyrdom of our beloved heroes today.

It was because of Spain Filipinos became appreciative of the arts. It was Spain who introduced the concept of education, entrepreneurship and religion to us Filipinos.

But we wished for too much freedom away from the Spaniards. When the Americans had us in their laps, we welcomed them with open hearts. And within a very short while, we've lost most of our Spanish ancestry, we've lost most of the legacies they have left, including the Spanish language and the rich Spanish culture.

Today, most of the Spanish-speaking nations are labeled as the future's global economic powers, and it's only logical that our overseas-venturing citizens relearn the Spanish language so as to stay globally competitive.

I'm seeing a huge increase in the number of people developing interest in learning Spanish and the cultures and traditions of Hispanic countries.

It took us decades and a global economic crisis to pay attention to our lost heritage.
